Account deletion
Corrections: support@domainvane.com
Deleting a Domainvane account is immediate. The account row is removed in the same database transaction as the data that belongs to it. There is no "deleted" flag and no undelete in the product.
Support, if you need a hand before you delete: support@domainvane.com.
What is removed
In one transaction, deletion removes:
- the user
- sessions for that user
- notification settings, including webhook URLs
- client report pages
- billing rows for that account
- email-outbox rows for that address
- rate-limit buckets for that account
- every domain (hostname) on the account, and the TLS results, RDAP results, alerts, and notification rows that belong to those domains
After the transaction commits, no remaining row points at the user. Report links for that account stop working. A request for one of those /r/<token> URLs is a 404, the same response as a token that never existed.
Webhook URLs are deleted with the notification settings. Domainvane will not POST new alerts to them, because the account and the targets are gone.
What is kept
Analytics rows stay, with the user id cleared. Their properties do not contain your email address, your hostnames, or report tokens. They are counts and event names used to understand the product (signup, domain added, checks, alerts sent, plan changes, public checks, report views, rate limits). They cannot be used to reconstruct your list of hostnames from the properties.
Local backup files can still contain the deleted rows until those files age out. The backup job prunes copies older than BACKUP_RETENTION_DAYS. The example configuration uses 14 days. That number is the operator's setting, not a separate promise that a backup is wiped on the day you click delete. Domainvane does not offer instant removal from backups that already exist. Backups are local to the server. This version does not upload them off the box.
What deletion does not do
- It does not cancel a certificate at your CA.
- It does not change anything at your registrar.
- It does not delete a Slack workspace or a webhook endpoint you host. It only stops Domainvane from calling it.
- It does not close a Stripe customer in a live Stripe account. Stripe checkout is open. Billing rows inside Domainvane are deleted with the account.
There is no public API and there are no API keys to revoke, because this version does not issue them.
Pause, cancel, and delete
These are different.
Pause a hostname if you want to keep it on the account without checks or alerts. A paused hostname still counts toward the plan cap. You can delete that one hostname later without deleting the account.
Cancel a paid plan through the billing portal. Paid checkout is open. Cancellation returns the account to Free at current_period_end, pauses the newest hostnames over the Free cap of 3, and does not auto-unpause them after an upgrade. Email alerts are delivered to external inboxes, including Gmail. Inbox placement is not guaranteed for every provider (Outlook and Yahoo have not been tested). Webhooks and client report pages are included on the paid plans that list them.
Delete the account if you want the user and the hostnames gone now, under the rules above.
Before you delete
- Copy any hostname list you still need. There is no export API in this version. The dashboard is the live copy you have.
- Client report pages are included on Agency and Agency+. Account deletion removes your report pages, and their links return 404.
- Webhook URLs and the webhook signing secret are deleted with the notification settings, and any pending webhook retry is dropped; a backup file may still hold ciphertext until
BACKUP_RETENTION_DAYSpasses. - Download nothing from Domainvane that you would not want on the machine you are using. The product will not have the account afterward.
Deletion is the right tool when you are leaving. It is the wrong tool when you only want to stop alerts for one client. Delete or pause that hostname instead.
